What's It Gonna BEE???

I threw my good friend Dana a Gender Reveal party and the theme was "What's it gonna BEE?". I could not resist making these adorable Bee cake pops! Like I said, I am obsessed with making (eating) these things! Bakerella.com has just about everything you need to know about making these delicious desserts and also has some really cute ideas too!

P.S. It was a GIRL!!!

Happy Birthday Terry!

My mother-in-law just had a big milestone birthday and I wanted to make a special cake for her special day! I chose to make a green cake with orange cherry blossom flowers because those are her two favorite colors...I also made the cake one of her favorite flavors (or so I was told): homemade carrot cake with cream cheese icing, and it was good! I'm still learning so much with each cake I make, and I am having so much fun doing it!

Cake Pops - so fun to make (and eat)!

I am completely addicted to making (and eating) these cake balls and cake pops! This time I made the cupcake cake pops and I think they turned out great! They were pretty time consuming but were totally worth it in the end...Thanks again Neely for the inspiration! Now I just wish you were here to eat them with me!

Cake Balls!

My best friend Neely sent me a book on how to make cake balls and cake pops, and all I can say is, what a GREAT invention! They are just the right amount of sweetness that I need after dinner or a perfect little pick-me-up during the day. I thought I would make some for our long weekend of parading during Mardi Gras. I also thought I would cut the recipe in half and only make 24 cake balls. I thought wrong! They were devoured the first night! Looks like I will be making more very soon.

My son also enjoyed them A LOT! He reached up on the counter without me knowing and grabbed one...his look tells it all in this picture!

Mardi Gras Time!

My Best Friend Neely decided to have her bachelorette party in New Orleans, and she couldn't have picked a better weekend. The weather was perfect and it just so happened to be the first weekend of Mardi Gras! I decided to attempt a Topsy Turvy Cake -Mardi Gras Style - for the weekend. Unfortunately I got sick a few days before all the girls got in town and a lot of the things I wanted to get done did not get done...I did, however, rush to make the cake literally 3 hours before Neely arrived. I had big plans for this cake, but was unable to finish them. Even though the cake was not as I had planned, I am still pleased with the results. I now know I can make a topsy turvy cake and plan to attempt another one very soon!

And what is Mardi Gras without a King Cake? mmmmm mmmmmm good!

Love is in the Air

It's Valentine's Day and I couldn't resist sending some mini cupcakes to school with my son. When I told him he got to eat cupcakes at school today, his eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning :) I hope his classmates enjoy them as much as I know he will!

I'll Drink To That!

My friend John's birthday falls on Valentine's Day, so what better way to celebrate his birthday, Valentine's Day, friendship, and love than to bake him a wine cake! This was by far the most difficult and complex cake I have done to date. From the wood grain paneling to figuring out how to make an edible wine bottle, this cake took me several days and many many hours on Google. It turned out just how I wanted, so I'll drink to that! Cheers!

What Happens In Nola...

This next cake was a fun one! My girlfriend Jenny had her bachelorette party, and I decided to surprise her with a lingerie cake. Let's just say is was a BIG hit! All the girls loved it. As for the party...well, you know what they say..."what happens in Nola, stays in Nola!"

Sweet Friend of Mine

Knowing my new found love for baking, my sweet friend Gina sent me a cupcake book. I could not wait to try out some of the ideas, so the very next day I tried my hand at one of the "easy" cupcakes. Blueberry and Cherry Pie Cupcakes! Thanks Gina for the inspiration!

You've Got A Friend In Me

Another year, Another cake...only this year it's Toy Story Themed! My son is absolutely obsessed with Buzz and Woody from Toy Story, so it was only fitting to do a Toy Story Cake and Cupcakes for his second birthday. I made the cake a day before the party and had a very hard time keeping my son away from it. I did let him enjoy a few of the alien cupcakes though!
